Ralph Alguire
August 31, 1930 - October 12, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph Alguire (born Leonard Ralph Alguire), on the morning of Thursday, October 12th, 2017, at the age of 87.
He passed away peacefully, in the company of his wife, Paz Alguire, in his room at the Silver Kettle care home, after a few months of ill health.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28th, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church 7269 9th Street, Grand Forks, BC. Father Gabriel will preside, and there will be a small reception following the service in the church's hall.
Ralph will be missed and lovingly remembered by his family: wife Paz, son Chuck, son David, daughter Karen, son Patrick, granddaughter Katrina, grandsons Zach and Max, and great-grandchildren Azalea and Ezekiel.
He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and long-time friends.
He is predeceased by his first wife Barbara Ann Boddy, his youngest son Paul and all of his siblings.
Ralph was born August 31st, 1930, the youngest of 8 siblings, to Charles and Esther Alguire, and raised on a farm near Ashville, Manitoba.
He had an interesting resume which included a brief stint as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, a few years as an RCMP officer, working in the Port Moody refinery, as a millwright for Husky Oil Refinery (Prince George) and finally spending 17 years with DUGAS in Dubai as an off-shore platform foreman before retiring to Grand Forks, B.C.
He was a well-travelled man, with two of his favourite trips being to Kenya and New Zealand. During his retirement he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family.
While at home, he possessed quite the "green thumb", spending countless hours tending to his garden and yard, which he took great pride in.
Although we are all very sad, we take solace in the fact that he is no longer in pain and can now rest in peace.
