The fire department’s close proximity to a Gulch fire Sunday afternoon is what saved flames from spreading into adjacent structures and causing much more property loss.
Social media was alight with posts showing plumes of dark smoke emanating from a Gulch structure, next to the stairs that lead up to Binns Street.
Captain Grant Tyson says the 9-1-1 of a fire in the 500 block of Rossland Avenue came into Station 374 Trail just after 2:30 p.m.
Regional fire rescue was on scene in minutes and report the incident as “under control” by 3:15 p.m.
“A quick response of just over one minute, because of the location of this fire, was a key factor to preventing a catastrophic fire,” Tyson reported Sunday night. “There were no injuries and regional fire rescue is investigating the cause.”
In all 10 firefighters attended, seven from Trail and three from Station 372 Warfield.
