Wildfires
Update from Grace McGregor - RDKB Director for Christina Lake
August 20 11:30am
Hi everyone...
We are still hard at it here
Right now we are tracking the Stickpin Fire (which is part of the Kettle Complex) that is across the border from Christina Lake and Grand Forks. The Stickpin is a major fire in Washington State. Today there is no significant
change in the fire however the smoke is still heavy in places.
The Regional District has the EOC well manned and we have excellent communication throughout the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. Along with the other fires in the region there is one at the top of the Paulson Pass; the road was closed the other day overnight because of smoke and today it is causing some smoke but the road remains open. There are no structures involved. We are working very closely with Washington State and the BC Wildfire Service. Please stay in touch through radio, and information provided
on the Regional District Website.
Keep in mind the 6 P's - People, Pets, Prescriptions, Papers, Pictures,
Personal Computers.
The Rock Creek Fire has settled down and is 50% contained and locals are now allowed on that portion of highway 33. Midway has done a fantastic job at their Community Centre and the Mayor Randy Kappess has made everything available that we might need. The Community has come together and provided food, information, shelter and anything else the evacuees might need. The Red Cross and Salvation Army are there and they will take over
the recovery process.
Thank you everyone for staying calm.
