Spinning and weaving for 35 years

February 2 marks the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Boundary Spinners & Weavers.

In 1976, the first meeting was held at the home of Elaine Loseth on Central Ave. to discuss the possibility of forming a local association for spinners, weavers and dyers. Twenty-two people were in attendance.

Over the years, the group had several locations to carry out their meetings, craft and workshops.

Originally meeting in members’ homes, they also met at basement of the library, the Seniors Hall, and the Art Gallery, amongst others. Thanks to the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, the Boundary Spinners & Weavers have now found a lovely new meeting space at 8120B Donaldson Dr.

The building has been named the Focus on Fibre Building. The current group has undertaken the necessary work to improve the facility to make a very pleasant work space, large enough for meetings and workshops.

They have also invited other fibre groups to join them in the facility.

To date, the Sunshine Quilters and the Grand Forks Quilt Connection have both joined as well as a number of non-guild members for a total of over 90 members who now use the building on various days for crafts such as knitting, needlework, rug hooking, quilting and, of course, spinning and weaving.

The Spinners and Weavers meet on Thursdays at 1:00 pm. and in celebration of their 35th anniversary, they invite all past and current members to join them at the Focus on Fibre building on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m. to see the new facility and to visit with old friends.
