UPDATED: Wirischagin steps down as Border Bruins president

Michael Wirischagin has stepped down as president of the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

Michael Wirischagin has stepped down as president of the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

The former president said that another employment opportunity had presented itself and would only say that it was a part-time position helping a friend.

“I ended up finding a job that paid me and I just didn’t have time for the Bruins,” Wirischagin said.

“I was investing about two to three hours pretty much every single day and quite honestly, if you’re not going to put in the time, it’s not going to work and once I got this other job, it came down to a point where if I don’t step down, I’m going to hurt this organization more than I’m going to help it.”

The Border Bruins confirmed that Wirischagin had stepped down this morning and said that team Vice-President Ward Faust would assume the president’s role.

Wirischagin, also the voice of the Grand Forks Border Bruins for the team’s web broadcasts, had been elected as president in March and it is not known if he will remain on in the broadcast capacity.

A board meeting will be held tonight when the matter will be discussed further.

Faust said he would prefer to wait until the meeting before commenting.
