Recreation complex holiday hours

Grand Forks Recreation has great savings, new programs and hour changes for the holiday hours.

With Christmas fast approaching, there is still time to take advantage of the great savings here at Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC).

Our year-end pass sale will continue until Dec. 31; stock up before the 2012 price increase.

Swim lessons and active children’s programs make great gifts for the little ones on your list. If you register a child for swim lessons before the end of the month, you will receive a 10 per cent discount off the 2012 rates.

Kid’s scuba is a specialized program that is held once a month at the aquatic centre. Children who love the water can take part in this unique experience. Sheldon Boyd from Summerland offers instruction with equipment designed just for kids.

Scuba stars is an introductory program that includes two dives. The next session will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15. Deadline to register will be Monday, Jan. 9.

Register yourself or loved one into a fitness class this winter. Circuit Shape Up for 2012 provides you with a complete workout with strength training and cardio.

Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. starting Jan. 17. Deadline to register is Jan. 10.

If you prefer the water, maybe the Aquafit to the Max class is for you. This is a program providing very little impact on your body while achieving a maximum workout. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. starting Jan.16. Deadline to register is Jan. 9.

The 20th Annual Mountain FM Old-Fashioned Christmas will be held at Grand Forks Arena on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. sponsored by GFREC, Mountain FM, Overwaitea and Van Houtte Coffee.

Enjoy an ice show by the Figure Skating club at 6 p.m. and Christmas carols at 7 p.m. There will be free skating and cocoa from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The figure skating club is also hosting a bake sale throughout the evening and you can register your children for winter programming as well.

Ron and Iris will have the concession open so plan dinner at the arena and support the arena concession.

If you have missed all the visits with Santa so far this holiday season, you still have an opportunity to take part in the CIBC Santa visit at the pool on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. CIBC has proudly sponsored the goodie bags for the event and regular pool admission apply

The aquatic centre holiday public swim hours will in effect from Dec. 19 to Jan. 1. Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m and Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Afternoon hours go Monday to Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.  The loonie, toonie swim will be held on Friday afternoons from 4 to 6 p.m.

Dec. 24 and 31, the pool will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. only.

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day, we will be closed.

The Grand Forks Arena will be open daily for the holidays from Dec. 19 to Jan. 1.

The loonie, toonie skate goes from 1:45 to 3:30 p.m., kids casual hockey will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. followed by adult casual hockey from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The senior hockey holiday schedule will be on Tuesday and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
