REC REPORT: Triathlon in a day

The Pharmasave Christina Lake Triathlon is right around the corner, scheduled for Sunday, June 26.

To get you motivated to shape up for the big event, Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) is hosting a Triathlon in a Day on Friday, May 13.

You have the choice to participate in three different distances. The bronze level includes a 200m swim, a 10k bike ride and a 1k run.

The silver distance has you swimming 750m, biking 20k and running a 5k and for those who really want to challenge themselves, can participate at the gold level, which includes a 1k swim, a 40k bike ride and a 10k run.

All three disciplines can be completed throughout the day and don’t have to be done in order.

Certificates will be provided and a stamp will be added following the completion of each activity.

Everyone who participates will have their names entered into a draw for a great prize.

You can enter as an individual or as a team. It’s all about fun, motivation and participation.

The aquatic centre also offers triathlon swim training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6 to 8:45 a.m.

The staff will customize your workout to meet your needs, from stroke improvement to endurance training. For many individuals, the swimming aspect of a triathlon is often the most challenging and the activity they spend the least amount of time improving on.

Regular pool admission applies and there is no extra fee for this service, so take advantage of this opportunity and head into the triathlon season confident in the water.

The kids are not left out of the Christina Lake Triathlon.  We offer a Kids Sprint race for ages 7 to 12 years that consists of a 100 m swim, a 6k bike ride and a 2k run.

We encourage kids to participate in the triathlon in a day event as well as taking advantage of the pool to improve their swimming skills and confidence before the big event.

Early registration is being taken now for the Pharmasave Christina Lake Triathlon and the Kids Sprint.

If you register yourself or your team by May 31, you will receive a discount on the entry.

Space is limited to 125 participants in the triathlon and 50 for the Kids Sprint, so don’t wait too long to register for this annual Boundary area event.
