REC REPORT: Summer time is hockey time

Floor hockey will be available to children on Friday afternoons.

Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) would like to thank the members of the Grand Forks Cycling Club and the Grand Forks Kettle River Running Club for assisting with the kids Just Tri It Triathlon training program.

Welcome to the summer of 2012, yes it is now officially here. Kids will be out of school soon and parents will be looking for activities to keep them busy for the next two months.

He shoots, he scores, do you want to get back playing a little pick up hockey (less the ice)?

Kevin Horne will be offering an opportunity for kids to come out Friday afternoons between 12 to 3 p.m. to play some floor hockey.

Get the legs back in shape, work on hockey skills and just have some fun with your hockey buddies. Please contact Kevin at 250-442-5924 for more information on this drop -in program.

Water, sun and fun, that’s what summer is all about. Learning to swim is a lifelong skill that you never forget. GFREC will be offering lessons throughout the summer months starting Monday, July 9.

Class sizes are limited so please register early to avoid disappointment.

If your child has completed the Red Cross swim lessons program or they are 13 years and over, but would like to continue the training in aquatics, we will be offering an Advanced Leadership Camp July 30 to Aug. 3.

Students will learn the basic lifesaving skills required for emergency water rescue by receiving the Bronze Medallion and Cross award.

Deadline to register is Monday, July 23.

If you like working with children, have a love for water and would be interested in a career in aquatics, check out the Water Safety Instructor course being held at the aquatic centre the week of July 2.

Instructor Cora Ludwar provides you with the skills and knowledge to teach a child anything from overcoming the fear of putting their face in the water to learning the front crawl.

This camp takes place July 2 to 5.
