REC REPORT: Spooky swimming on Oct. 26 at the aquatic centre

Celebrate Halloween at the Grand Forks Aquatic Centre for the annual Spooky Swim Super Splash on Oct. 26.

What are you doing for Halloween this year? Come celebrate with us at the aquatic centre on Friday, Oct. 26. The annual Spooky Swim Super Splash will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

There will be lots of Halloween games and activities scheduled during the event. The pool will be open until 9 p.m., so you can stay and enjoy a swim after the event. Admission for the evening is just $2 per person.

Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) would like to extend a huge thank you to all the businesses that sponsored this year’s spooky swim. Buy Low, Extra Foods, Bargain Store, Fields, Overwaitea Foods, Pharmasave and Value Drug Mart. Goodie bags will be given out during the evening.

It’s November again, and GFREC will be offering our year end membership pass sale from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31. Stock up on the passes now and save for the upcoming season.

If you are thinking about healthy and educational Christmas presents for the children on your list, swim lessons would make great gifts. Register children for the winter sessions and save 10 per cent on the 2013 prices.  This discount offer is in effect until Dec. 31.

It’s starting to feel like fall has finally arrived. That should not stop you from getting outside and walking for your health. The Love and Sugar walking group meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the aquatic centre parking lot.

This is a self lead group that allows you to go at your own pace and your own distance. There is no age restriction and all levels are welcome.

Remembrance Day free community skate at the Grand Forks Arena has been sponsored by Copper Fields Development – A Sustainable Grand Forks Community. The Grand Forks Border Bruins will be on site to sell raffle tickets and the community can skate with the team between 3 to 5 p.m.

Mark your calendar on Sunday, Nov. 11. Admission is by donation towards the local food bank.

Please pick up a Nov. flyer for details on the upcoming community events, or give GFREC a call at 250-442-2202 or email us at gfplay@rdkb.com.
