REC REPORT: Pooling resources for swim classes

Grand Forks Recreation has had a break from swim lessons after the summer and is ready to get started with its fall programs.

It’s almost been a month since the kids have been back to school and families are back into a regular routine again.

We have also had a break from swim lessons after the summer and are ready to get started with our fall programs.

Saturday mornings will be packed full of swim lessons for three to five years old and school-age children.

Preschool level one to eight (Starfish to Whale) will be offered between 10 and 11:00 a.m.

Swim kids level one to four will be held between 9 and 10 a.m.

During this program time, we will be offering an opportunity for families to come enjoy the supervised Parent and Tot Swim and Play program from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This program is free to families with children six and under and is sponsored by Success by 6 and Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC).

Saturday programming starts Oct. 22 and runs for six weeks with the deadline to register by Oct. 14.

Swim Kids levels five to 10 will be held on Friday afternoons between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. starting Oct. 21.

Canadian Swim Patrol is an alternative program to traditional Red Cross swim lessons. It provides enriched training for children who are ready to go beyond the learn to swim program. It offers a three-level program which includes the rookie, ranger and star awards.

The content is challenging but very achievable for ages eight to 15 years.

Deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 14.

Weekday preschool lessons will be held on Monday and Wednesday mornings and evenings starting Nov. 7.

Parent and Tot swim lessons for ages six months to three years will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 6 p.m. starting Nov. 8.

Aquafit to the Max is an intense instructor-led program – utilizing specialized equipment in shallow and deep water – taking place on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. beginning Oct. 17. Pre-registration is required by Oct. 9. Circuit Shape Up for fall is a registered fitness program that offers a workout combining cardio and strength training using free weights.
