REC REPORT: GFREC wants you to move in May

The B.C. Recreation and Parks Association’s (BCRPA) Move for Health Day is an annual event in May.

Taking place in communities around the province, it encourages families and friends to get together and celebrate health and wellness by participating together in physical activity.

Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC), along with many sponsors, are celebrating Move for Health Day by providing a free family bike ride along the Trans Canada Trail from the Cascade Falls parking lot in Christina Lake to Grand Forks City Park on Saturday, May 7.

Pre-registration is required and pre-boarding starts at 9:30 a.m. with the bus leaving promptly at 10 a.m.

The ride will end back at City Park where snacks and drinks will be provided. This is a free event and we are encouraging everyone to get out and be active on this day.

Beginner to advance levels are welcome and a parent must accompany children under eight years of age. Helmets, water and a good working bike are mandatory.

It will soon warm up and you will be getting outdoors with babies and strollers.

Fitness instructor Lupita Laird will be offering a free eight-week stroller fitness program on Thursday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. starting May 5 and run weekly until June 23 at the City Park.

Classes are designed to use the natural environment as the workout gym. Stroller fitness is sponsored by Success by 6 and GFREC.

Come meet new friends, enjoy the outdoors and get a great workout without having to worry about childcare.

Ladies’ mountain bike rides will soon start up again for another season.

Book your Tuesday afternoons off and come join the local group as it makes its way onto the local trails around the area.

The group starts out with the basic conditioning rides to get legs and lungs in shape then continues on more advanced rides.

All you will need is a good working bike, helmet and water. We meet at the Grand Forks Arena parking lot and head out from there.

Our first ride is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3 and that is rain, snow or shine.
