People living in the valley may be thinking about spring, but not on Phoenix Ski Hill.

There the ski season is still going strong.

Ski hill manager Chris Nason says, “Phoenix started the year off with a record level of snow and things have been great from Day One!

The Phoenix Mountain Alpine Ski Society hopes that people come out in March to enjoy fantastic spring skiing conditions, and to watch our fantastic upcoming events.”

Those events include the March 2, Phoenix Open, racing for skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities.

Registration for the event is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on race day. There is a $5 divisional entry fee, parents must sign a waiver for anyone under 18, and helmets are mandatory. All entrants are automatically entered in a prize draw as well.

March 17 is the date for the sixth annual Phoenix Mountain Park Jam, a freestyle skiing/boarding event, which Phoenix advertises as “featuring rail jamming and slope style madness.” Registration fee for each event is $20 for pros and $15 for amateurs; register between 9 and 10 a.m.

The action starts with the park jam (rails) at 10 a.m.; Big Air (jumps) competition starts at 1 p.m. The hill says there will be “swag, prizes and cash” for the competitors.

Finally, the year-end wrap up on March 31, the Phoenix Mountain Annual Spring Fling, will feature the ever popular Dummy Downhill Race as well as an outdoor barbecue and 50/50 draw.

Entry is $20 per dummy which Phoenix says will entitle the participants to “fabulous prizes for best dummy, best crash, best air and more!” No snowmobiles please.

This year’s Spring Fling theme is the ‘70s so visitors (and dummies) are encouraged to dress and speak accordingly!
