JUNE 12 GRAND FORKS RECREATION REPORT: Summer great time to get kids into swimming

Parents can choose from three Red Cross summer swim lesson sessions from Grand Forks Recreation.

Summer is a great time to get your child into swim lessons with our week-long format. Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) is now taking registration for our Red Cross summer swim lessons.

There will be only three sessions to choose from this year and class sizes are limited. The sessions will be held the week of July 8, July 22 and Aug. 12.

Christina Lake Recreation will be offering a session at the public beach the week of July 29.

If you are thinking about a career in aquatics or want training in water safety procedures, Christina Lake Recreation will be offering a summer Advanced Leadership camp at the public beach the week of July 29. This camp includes the Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross awards.

Why not take advantage of a week at the beach and earn knowledge of water safety skills. Deadline to register for the summer camp is July 22.

Christina Lake Recreation will be offering summer fitness throughout July and August at the Lake. Instructor Corrine Olsen will be combining the latest fad in fitness, Zumba with pilates and stretching, providing you with a fun and exciting exercise program.

Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Christina Lake Community Hall starting July 1. The registration fee for 10 classes is $85.

We will allow drop-ins if we meet our minimum number and the deadline to register is June 24.

Instructor Lupita Laird will be offering an evening fitness boot camp at the Christina Lake ball field. This program will be held for the summer months starting July 2.

Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The registration fee for 18 classes is $95 and the deadline to register is June 25.

The Just TRI It Mini Triathlon is scheduled for today (June 12). Anyone over the age of seven can participate in the short distance triathlon, which is aimed give you the TRI experience in a fun and friendly environment.

GFREC would like to thank the Grand Forks Cycling Club and parents for their time to help make this a safe and fun community event.  The event starts at 5 p.m. behind the aquatic centre.

The ninth annual Pharmasave Christina Lake Sprint Triathlon and Kids Sprint is scheduled for Sunday, June 23.

It is a fun event, perfect for the first time triathletes.  Deadline to register is Wednesday, June 19. If you can spare a few hours on June 23 to help make this a memorable experience for the athletes, please give us a call.
