JAN. 9 REC REPORT: Be a dancing queen or king with Grand Forks Recreation

Beginner dance lessons will be offered at the lower viewing room at Grand Forks Arena starting Jan. 28.

One step, two step, three step, four. Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) would like to help you get through the winter blues. Dancing can be a great social activity and it can help to stimulate your brain and getting some exercise.

Learn to two-step, salsa, waltz and tango in just four sessions.

Instructor May Berge will be offering beginner dance lessons at the Grand Forks Arena lower viewing room Monday evenings starting Jan. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. Deadline to register is Jan. 21. Partners are not required for this program. Call today to register.

The Grand Forks Aquatic Centre has extended the public hours during the week. The pool will now be open from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Monday through Friday. Afternoon hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Saturday and Sunday, the pool will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Don’t forget the toonie swim on Friday afternoons from 5 to 9 p.m. Everyone just pays $2.

Children six and under can enjoy a free skate every Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.

Figure skating coach Carla Bryan provides supervision on the ice for the one-hour session. This free community program has been sponsored by Success by Six and GFREC.

The winter session will start Jan. 14.

We are now back to our regular public skating schedule at the rink.

Tuesday afternoons from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., everyone can skate for just a toonie. Friday afternoons the toonie skate is held from 1:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Saturday family skate has been canceled Saturday, Jan. 12 due to a midget hockey tournament. Our regular Sunday afternoon public skating session is held from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Grand Forks Border Bruins will be taking on Castlegar Rebels tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 10). Game time is at 7:30 p.m. Come out and cheer on the boys and enjoy some local talent.
