Four Grand Forks masters curling teams performed well at the recent B.C. Interior Masters/Pacific Masters Combined Championships

Four Grand Forks masters curling teams performed well at the recent B.C. Interior Masters/Pacific Masters Combined Championships held in Salmon Arm and Chase.In the 60-plus men’s event, the Vern Best team skipped by Gerry Foster with Tom Bassett (second) and Joe Hasabe (lead) finished their eight-team round robin combined championship tied for second place overall.In the 70-plus men’s event, the Gordon Shimizu team (jointly skipped by Homer Good) with Paul Beattie (third), Ken Hamanishi (second) and Paul Androsoff (lead) finished their eight-team round robin combined championship tied for third place overall and tied for first place in the four-team Interior championship. They lost the Interior title to the Seebach team from Vernon, in a shootout.The 60-plus ladies zone team was made up with curlers from two clubs: Helga Skibinski (skip) and Verna Chernoff (second) from Castlegar; Carol Large (third), Jan Stewart (lead) and Marion Beattie (fifth) from Grand Forks. They finished their five-team round robin Interior championship tied for third place.In the 60-plus mixed event, the Tom Bassett team, with Carol Large (third), Paul Beattie (second) and Marion Beattie (lead) finished their six-team round robin Interior championship in fifth place.
