The Border Bruins Association will be holding its annual general meeting (AGM) on March 7 at 7 p.m. at the lower viewing room at the Grand Forks Arena.

The Bruins are coming off a big turnaround season.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach and general manager Nick Deschenes, the team improved by 16 points in the standings and provided consistently entertaining hockey for its fans.

Deschenes also played a big role in building a close, mutually beneficial relationship with the Grand Forks Minor Hockey Association and the Hockey Academy at Grand Forks Secondary School.

The players were active in the community and the community in turn, welcomed the boys with open arms.

The AGM is a great opportunity to get informed, get involved, and become a part of the Border Bruins' "team behind the team." The non-profit organization is entirely volunteer run.

There are a number of positions open on the board of directors, and the team is always looking for volunteers to help run game day at the arena, organize fundraisers, or co-ordinate community events.

The board believes that it is by instilling values of hard work, dedication and generosity in the players that fulfills its mandate to develop these young men into better people while enriching the community.

Whatever your talent, the team can help you thrive.

Whether you're business-minded, people-oriented, like arts, photography or multimedia, or just enjoy the great game of hockey, now is a great time to become part of something special.

Hopes are high for Deschenes' second year at the helm; the hockey team is back on track and it is a very exciting time to join the Border Bruins.
