The Grand Forks Border Bruins have hired Nick Deschenes as their new head coach and general manager (GM).

Deschenes spent the tail-end of the 2011/12 KIJHL season on the Border Bruins' bench as an assistant to interim head coach Matt Zamec and has been signed to a two-year deal.

Zamec, who is now the team's vice-president and assistant GM, will return as an assistant coach in the upcoming season.

"I would like to thank the Grand Forks Border Bruins organization for this opportunity and look forward to building a successful junior B program in the Grand Forks area," the new coach and GM said in a team release.

Deschenes is a former player in the Philadelphia Flyers' system, playing with the team's AHL affiliate Philadelphia Phantoms, with stints in 2003/04 and 2004/05.

He played with Zamec at Yale University in 1999/2000.
