The Grand Forks Secondary School (GFSS) senior boys' basketball team lost a 57-56 heartbreaker in its opener against Invermere's David Thompson on Friday afternoon at the AA Kootenay Zone tournament.

It appeared as if the team had tied the game but the referee waved off the potential game-tying free throw in the dying seconds citing a lane violation and the team lost.

The team won its next game against Prince Charles Secondary School (PCSS) on Friday night by a final of 60-51.

GFSS player Brodie Hall left that game after taking an elbow to the mouth and will likely not play today according to GFSS Head Coach Michael Wirischagin.

GFSS lost its Saturday afternoon game to Kimberley's Selkirk Secondary School by a final of 66-62.
