The Grand Forks Secondary (GFSS) senior girls basketball team is getting ready to host the Kootenay AA Girls zone finals from Feb. 25 to 26.
With a sparkling record of 12 wins - 4 losses to date, the high-scoring GFSS girls are seeded No. 2 in the six-team tourney – teams coming include Golden, Invermere, Creston, Trail and L.V. Rogers (LVR) from Nelson.
The zone winner will fill the Kootenay berth at the 16-team Sr. Girls AA Provincials to be held March 9 to 12 in Kamloops.
Despite the flu bug that hit a number of players recently, coaches Shayne Konar and Sheryl Williams are pleased with how the team continues to play.
The team has averaged nearly 70 pts a game recently, with a win over Rossland 79 - 70 and a narrow loss to LVR 61 - 58.
“They are fun to watch,” said the coaches about the team’s determination and hard work on the court. “Come out and see some good basketball.”
Game time is 6 p.m. this Friday at the GFSS gym. Fans are welcome and admission is free.Cheer on the GFSS girls.
