Cyclists have a good time

The Grand Forks Cycling Club hosted its annual team time trial on Sunday, Aug. 14. Eighty-six kilometers in two hours is not a speed record for a vehicle on Granby Road but for a group of cyclists, it was an incredible time.

The Grand Forks Cycling Club (GFCC) hosted its annual team time trial on Sunday, Aug. 14.

A team time trial is a race/ride where several riders draft in a pace line, each member taking turns at the head of the line.

The lead rider pulls the team and the following riders can save up to 35 per cent of their

energy by drafting in a line.

The course started in Grand Forks, coursed up North Fork Road, crossed the Hummingbird Bird Bridge and continued to the 43-km mark on Granby Road and returned to town.

Kelowna Cycle and Janusz Cycle (Trail) set an amazing record of two hours.

One of the GFCC cycling teams – comprised of Dan Sharpe, Noel Fisher, Astrid Kihl, Robb Sebastian and Brent Heric – finished fourth with a respectable time of 2:35 considering they stopped for 10 minutes at the turn around.

The other results are posted below.

The Station Pub hosted the post race refreshments.

Nigel James, Bill and Cheryl Ahrens volunteered to help Race Co-ordinator Nipper Kettle. As always, thank you vehicle drivers for slowing down and driving around.
