City tidies up by closing road

A road that isn’t really a road will be closed by the city after a vote by council.

At Grand Forks city council meeting on May 26, council voted to close a portion of an unnamed road located near Sagamore Road and 2nd Street.

The request came from two adjacent property owners (Emcon and WD Sheet Metal) who wanted to close a portion of the undeveloped road and consolidate each portion with their property.

At the May 12 Committee of the Whole meeting, the committee received staff’s report and deemed that portion of road located between Sagamore Road and 2nd Street as surplus to the needs of the city and directed staff to proceed with the statutory requirements necessary to start and complete the road closure and consolidation of the portion of the road.

“We’ve had a couple of inquiries on it,” said Doug Allin, city administrative officer. “It’s just a clean-up of existing lands that’s a cost to taxpayers whereas eventually we could have the title raised and have it sold for revenue into the city.”
