VIEW FROM THE PULPIT: Loopholes in law, none in God's law

Loopholes is an emotional word.

Loopholes is an emotional word.

You have a contract with another person and instead of the other party fulfilling their responsibility, they find a loophole and you bear the consequences.

Loopholes are responsible for many headaches and bursts of anger.

“Unfair,” we may shout. Lawyers find loopholes in the justice system and a criminal is not punished.

We may have an emotion of joy when we figure out that a loophole in the tax code is to our benefit.

No matter what your thoughts, God’s love has no loopholes – he loves all people and there are no loopholes in that.

St. Paul says in Romans 8:35, 37-39 (New International Version): Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Furthermore there are no loopholes in the way to heaven.  It is through Jesus alone.
