VIEW FROM THE PULPIT JUNE 5: Taste the goodness of God's word

The word of God is like a barbecue; barbecued food is good and so is the Bible.

It has been said that 82 per cent of households of North America own a barbecue grill. I am told that 97 per cent use their grills at least one time a year.

What do the other three per cent do with their grills?  I have read that 92 per cent of the people around us own a Bible, but only 37 per cent read the Bible.

The culinary barbecue creations are special delights for our taste buds. The food and cooking skills are gifts from God for people to enjoy.

This is true of barbecue, and it is also true of God’s word, the Bible.

Just as the barbecue feasts are good to our tastes, so in God’s word we taste the sweet forgiveness of sins through Jesus.

The Psalmist states, “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him,” – Psalm 34:8.  I invite you to taste the good food of summer, and the good news in the Bible.
