Letter to the Editor: Don't take away natural park area

Letter opposing a housing development in natural park area at Christina Lake.

With respect to Jill Gresley-Jones letter to the Gazette last week: we couldn’t agree more.

We were beginning to think that we were the only ones at the Lake opposed to further encroachment on our beautiful “natural” park area.

Faye and I were members of the Christina Lake Chamber of Commerce a number of years back when the chamber obtained the lease on this land from the government. It was always understood that this land would remain undeveloped.

Some years ago other members and ourselves tried to have a small area graveled and a picnic area developed. We were totally shot down by the chamber, as they wanted to keep it “natural.”

This is the same chamber which has since put up a large building and huge parking lot. Now they are wanting to further develop the most pristine part of the park for housing. What a ridiculous notion.

There are any number of beautiful areas at the Lake where seniors or other housing developments can be put. To take away any more of our natural park in the centre of our community would be a crime.
