Letter: The influence of music

Editor:

Re: CSBC putting itself in “Dire Straits” (Jan. 19 issue of the Grand Forks Gazette)

There are far worse statements in this song than the word that be interpreted as homophobic.

“Money for nothing” is the worst part of the message being pumped out, encouraging indolence among youth. Plato knew that music had a serious influence upon people, and suggested that certain types of music be banned. Just go to any worksite and you will see racism, sexism, classism, educationism – any kind of ‘ism’ you can imagine – flourishing quite nicely as the work goes on. People don’t like being shoved into any automatic position.

Given enough time, differences tend to work themselves out.
