Letter: Thanks to the Grand Forks Library

Editor:

When I open the doors and step into the Grand Forks and District Public Library, warm feelings start to rise up in me and I instantly begin to smile.

I have always been a member of a library but this is the only library where I have experienced such helpful, pleasant and patient staff. I love the books, exploring new ideas and the quiet environment – but the difference in Grand Forks is the personal attention and feeling of community.

Four months ago I began writing a book and my library visits became more frequent as I became familiar with the variety of valuable services available to me. The challenges I experience with English as a second language have given me unique insight into the patience and the knowledge of the staff and volunteers.

I have been generously helped with Internet research techniques, instruction on the new computers, printing, reference searches of library books and I have also attended the library book club meetings to participate in lively and informative discussions.

I particularly enjoy the comfortable spaces where I can write my book, meet friends or read a variety of current magazines and newspapers.

I now think of the library as the centre of our community and I want to extend my appreciation and gratitude to the staff for the joy I experience each time I enter the Grand Forks and District Public Library.
