Editor:

Congratulations to Steve McGibbon and the Grand Forks Pipes and Drums for hosting the very successful Spring Fling the weekend of May 4.

There were nine bands competing in this event and they came from Kelowna, the Kootenays, Kimberley, Kamloops, Penticton, Kalamalka, Shuswap, Trail and Vernon.

The highlight of the event had to be the parade of the massed bands down Market Avenue, led by the RCMP and members of the local Royal Canadian Legion. The judge of the games was a very well known judge, Nigel Alaykia, who came from Penticton.

The winning band came from Kamloops, led by Pipe Major Scot Kortegaard. This event really put Grand Forks on the map.

Hugh Sutherland started the Grand Forks Pipes and Drums band many years ago. John Pratt of Christina Lake was the Chief Drummer.
