LETTER: Power to the People

Editor:

Power to the people.  The HST is dead.  Democracy is alive.  Let’s be clear, the defeat of the HST was more than the defeat of an unfair tax on ordinary people.

It was a strong message to those in power: lie to us and given the opportunity, we will smack you down.

Those in power will now have to figure out how to repay the millions of dollars the Conservatives gave to the province as a bribe for saddling the masses with this tax.

Don’t be fooled, all of this money, federal and provincial is our money, the only tax pocket is our tax pocket.

The Liberals spent millions of dollars, taxpayers’ dollars to convince us this was a good tax, a revenue neutral tax; then why do they claim they will lose millions in tax dollars after going back to the old PST, GST tax if in fact it was revenue neutral? Sounds like more lies.

It is interesting when you examine the voting percentage by riding; that the affluent riding’s in the province, West Vancouver, North Vancouver and other well-to-do Liberal riding’s voted by a overwhelming margin to keep the tax, while most working and middle class ridings voted to reject the tax – draw your own conclusions.  Friday, Aug. 26, 2011 will go down in history as a great day for the citizens of British Columbia.
