LETTER: On majority government

Editor:

I read with bemusement the Gazette’s full, front-page love-in hailing the local MP’s not unexpected re-election win.

The real story was the Conservative majority, which directly resulted from three opposition parties’ ego-driven defeat of the minority government – in no small part – by Mr. Atamanenko.  The NDP’s real victory lies in the demolishing of their former allies, the Liberals and the Bloc.

Will this be sea change in the political landscape or will the capricious Quebec electorate abandon their NDP surrogates four years from now? Meanwhile, the Conservative majority government can at last proceed with the business of running the country, without continual threats of unnecessary and expensive elections.
