LETTER: Matters of meat

How many other ways can this federal government betray the Canadian people?

How many other ways can this federal government betray the Canadian people?

It is now downloading meat inspection responsibilities (and costs) to the provinces, which will be in no way prepared to take on. This will prepare the country to be besieged with meat and fowl from countries which have little, if any, health regulations or standards regarding production (think China and Japan’s nuclear contamination).

In turn, our own standards will have to be lowered in order to compete, leaving us vulnerable to life-threatening illnesses and disease. Of course, the government will cut its “expenses” and deficits, making them look good to the unthinking masses! Or will it increase payments to the provinces to assist with this added expense? I think not.

This is one more sign of corporate power leading ultimately to corporate rule.

Stephen Harper, I am sure, expects that by co-operating with big business executives in their personal agendas, he will be given a plum position in their corporations when Canadians wake up and kick him out!  How much damage will he have done to us in the meantime?
