LETTER: Jobs are catalysts

Editor:

Re: Federal Conservative Hill says jobs first step to revitalize Boundary (April 13 issue of the Grand Forks Gazette).

I am the owner of Regal Ridge Developments, which straddles both the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) and Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) on Anarchist Mountain.

My attention was caught by Stephen Hill’s comment on how bringing jobs back is the No. 1 issue in the Boundary area.

I’ve lived full time in the Osoyoos area now for over the past 10 years; most of our crew at Regal Ridge reside around the Midway area.

Unfortunately, over these past years, I’ve witnessed a continual eroding of jobs, which has become very concerning to me.

I’ve been in the construction business all my life and am proud to say that I have an outstanding, conscientious and dedicated crew, one of the best I have ever worked with.

It gave me great pleasure in reading Stephen Hill’s comments, which parroted his remarks to me when he actually took the time to stop in and visit a month ago.

Finally someone is cutting to the chase, creating jobs and helping the economy.

Jobs beget more jobs; commerce begets more commerce.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that there is idealism and there is realism and the reality is that without a viable and sustainable economy supporting them, the most grandiose idealistic plans in the world will fly right out the window.
