Letter: Giving a thorough reading

Re: The right facts (Feb. 23 issue of the Grand Forks Gazette)

It is obvious that Mr. Field only read parts of Mr. Ronaghan’s column of Jan.12 and read only parts of my letter.

Please re-read them with an open mind and read them completely.

I have been a licensed electrical contractor in B.C. since 1957 and do have some knowledge of power generation and distribution.

While there are various ways to generate power, wind, solar, tidal, etc, run of the river projects, utilizing spring runoff, are the least desirable of them all and the most destructive and the least productive.

If there is the odd case where there are no other options, then they should be developed by BC Hydro.

To create a situation where any part of our power supply is to be provided and controlled by IPPs (independent power producers) is total madness.

You are trying to present these entrepreneurs as Good Samaritans whose main concern is to protect B.C. from a power shortage.

This brings back to mind a saying from past years, “Don’t eat that George, it’s (horse crap).”

Even the most stupid of us know that the driving force behind those IPPs is greed and the bottom line is ever increasing profits.

Having gone through your website a few times, I get the ever-increasing impression that your group is comprised of

lobbyists who are trying to sell the IPPs proposal to the public.

If that is the case, then the only thing green in your group is the colour of money, either for yourself or your friend’s among the IPPs.

While we cannot tell for certain that you are a lobby group, I remember my mother telling me that if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it could be a duck.

If your organization is a duck, could you please do B.C. a very big favour and take your group and play your game somewhere else.

If you would wish to discuss this at an open public forum I could be available on very short notice.
