LETTER: Fire crews impressive while battling Brown Creek Road blaze

Re: Fire contained off of Brown Creek Road East (story, Sept. 5 issue of the Grand Forks Gazette)

Thank you to the Grand Forks fire department and B.C. forest fire crew. It was a moving day out at Brown Creek when lo and behold, the acreage around our trailer was accidentally set ablaze.

We had brought one load out and left our two cats while we went back in to drive the U-Haul out.

On the way out, I noticed a plume of smoke in our general area and thought, “Uh oh, that doesn’t look good.” Meanwhile, fire trucks came screaming beside us. When we arrived, sure enough it was our place.

I was very emotional about my cats. A wonderful, tall Grand Forks firefighter came over with bottles of water for my husband and I and helped to calm me, as I was beside myself with worry about my cats and I didn’t know at this point if our trailer was gone.

Next thing, the fire bombers came in with acrobatic precision and dropped fire retardant over the blaze behind or trailer.

A helicopter with a water bladder was put to use. It was all so precise, quick and professional. In a short time, we were able to return the next day to move in.

For five days, a cleanup crew of six from Valhalla Forest Fire service did a magnificent job of patrolling the perimeter of the 22 acres to put out hot spots. They were polite and considerate.

I feel very confident and safe with the excellent job done by the Grand Forks and B.C. forest fire crews. No wonder B.C. is called on from other provinces and elsewhere, as its calibre of expertise and professionalism is so evident. Thank you again so much.
