LETTER: Cards on the table for Granby granite

Concerning North American Stone's application for free sampling of the Granby granite bluffs, the cards are on the table.

Editor:

Concerning the application for free sampling of the Granby granite bluffs, the cards are on the table.

According to information from several representatives at Thursday’s (July 5) meeting, for $4/hectare, you can apply for a mining tenure.

The blocks up the Granby are $25/hectare each, which means that for $100 each, North American Stone Inc., a Chinese company registered in B.C., can now export tons of sampling product overseas to see if it is what the “global market” wants.

Never mind the beauty, never mind the tranquility, never mind the already existing industry of tourism, never mind the people that live there and the animals that travel through.

With the initial help of a jackhammer and then a pneumatic drill, big slabs of rock will begin their journey overseas.

This all, of course, will only take place during daytime working hours, we are assured, initially anyways, until the hunger grows and with minimal benefit to the community and huge negative impact.

Where are the city councillors and the RDKB Area D director?
