William Lawrence Ling

May 6,1935 – May 23, 2017

It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce Bills’ sudden passing on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

Bill was born on May 6,1935 in Trail, B.C. to Helen and Bill Ling. He was raised in Rossland B.C., where his love of all sports flourished. He was an avid ski racer (including alpine jumping) and taught all three of his children how to ski at a very young age, and because of that, they all worked in the ski industry for a time. Bill and Butch Boutry built a ski hill in Alberta called Rabbit hill that is up and running to this day. He was an ice hockey player for the Rossland warriors, and an aggressive Lacrosse and Baseball player. In later years Bill took up golf and was competitive in many tournaments.

He loved to travel and lived in Hawaii for fifteen years where he developed a small tourist resort, and built his own home with son Michael, in Kihei Maui.

He moved back to Canada in the late 80’s and there he developed a Condominium Project,”Wildwood on Blackcomb” in Whistler, B.C., which son Shawn eventually became property manager.

Bill will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Shawn (Denise), and Michael, and daughter Shannon (Tom). Grandchildren Jordan and Cheyenne. Brothers Jack (Robbie), Jim (Chris), and Randy (Brigitte). He is predeceased by his father Bill Sr., Mother Helen, and sister Patricia of whom he was very close.

He loved to entertain and cook for family and friends and shared the delights of his own recipes. His sense of humour is a Ling trait and the sparkle in his blue Irish eyes at the telling of a good story will be sorely missed. Until we meet again. We love you Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and Brother. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 4, 2017 in the lower Legion hall @ 11:30 am in Rossland, B.C.
