Wayne Swetlishnoff passed away at the Ivy House, Silver Kettle Village, with his good friend Cody by his side. Wayne Bryan Swetlishnoff was born in Grand Forks to John and Marie Swetlishnoff (nee Dergousoff) on March 24, 1946. Wayne grew up on the family farm in the Nursery area and lived most of his life there. Wayne had two siblings, Randy and Wendy. Life was not always easy for Wayne, who became the man of the home when his father, John, passed away in 1966. Wayne helped with the family farm through the years, and was a great help to his mother, Marie, especially
when she had medical issues in her later years.
Wayne worked at many different jobs and gained an amazing amount of knowledge from each one. He had a wonderful ability to design and fabricate equipment. He could repair all kinds of things and was always generous to help when someone had a problem.
Wayne's passion was quadding in the mountains with his many friends. Finding a place to go fishing was the bonus. Wayne loved food, whether it was his Mom's home cooking or a fresh from the garden tomato and onion sandwich. And Wayne loved his friends, of whom there were many, as evidenced by the number who were his visitors in his later years at the Ivy House.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents John and Marie Swetlishnoff, his brother Randy and his sister Wendy.
A viewing service was held at the Grand Forks Funeral Home on Friday, March 29th. A Celebration of Life will be held to honour Wayne on May 11th at Wayne's shop.
