May 31, 1931 - Dec 9, 2017
Victor was born in Olomouc Czechoslovakia, and spent young years under German Protectorate during the WWII. Compulsory attendance of a German gymnasium in Olomouc gave him language background for German and Latin. Victor received his BEd degree at Charles University in Prague and expanded it by studies of French during summers at the UBC and Simon Fraser University.

In 1968, Victor's family was accepted as immigrants to Canada, and came to Vancouver, adapting well and appreciating all that BC had to offer. After teaching in Lillooet and Prince Rupert, Victor came to Grand Forks. While teaching French, he prepared annual feast of French crepes with strawberries and whipping cream.

He coached school and community teams in track and field, and in soccer. He enjoyed making pretty good fruit wines from the abundant harvest of their small orchard in West Grand Forks - apricot, rhubarb, cherry, pear, and raspberry.

As an athlete, Victor represented Czechoslovakia as a rover in an eight at the 1951 Olympic Games in Helsinki. Later he kept fit by training and running several marathons, including the famed one in Boston.

He loved camping and criss-crossed BC, canoeing lakes and rivers, before venturing south. With his knowledge of several languages, it was enjoyable to travel through Europe.

Victor will be missed by his wife of 52 years Emilie, his children and their spouses - Regina and Vince, Roy and Jennifer, his grandchildren Erika, Fairyn, and Carter, and many relatives over-seas.

The family would like to sincerely thank everybody at the Boundary Lodge and at Silver Kettle Ivy House, the doctors and nurses, for the excellent care and caring they have given Victor over the several years he spent with them.

Cremation arrangement have been entrusted to Grand Forks Funeral Home, and a memorial will be held in the spring of 2018.
