“Bubbles”, nicknamed by her father, for her perpetual smile!
Bubbles was born 1921 at Grand Forks, the eldest of three daughters to Ernest and Mary Vant.
She married Art in 1947 and they settled in Grand Forks. She lived in the same home for over 60 years. Early in her working career, she and husband Art, managed operations of the local CP Express Office.
Bubbles always wanted to be a teacher, but enjoyed settling as a Kindergarten helper. Later on, she worked a long time in the Grand Forks office of West Kootenay Power. Bubbles had a great love for all animals and was a talented gardener. Her beautiful flower gardens were admired by all. She and her good friend Gladys were always seen together, delivering Meals on Wheels, at yard sales and spending Sunday afternoons at Gladys’ Jewel Lake cabin.
Bubbles was a Life Member of Evangeline Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; active in the Alzheimer Society, and the Boundary Historical Society.
Bubbles passed away peacefully on February 20, 2013, at 91 years of age. Predeceased by her husband; she is survived by her daughter Carol (Brad); sisters Gerry and Audrey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her dear friends, who spent countless hours with Mom over the last few years, and those neighbours who helped her stay at home as long as she was able. Thanks to Mom’s doctor, staff at Boundary Hospital, Broadacres, and Ivy Manor of Silver Kettle, for the sensitive care Mom received during her stay.
Funeral arrangement have been entrusted to the Baker Family of Grand Forks Funeral Home. No service by request; in lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
