November 21, 1922 - August 5, 2019
Violet Jennie Hughes, age 96, passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2019 at Silver Kettle Village (Ivy House) in Grand Forks, BC.
Violet was the first of five children born to Arthur and Violet Dillon on November 21, 1922 in London, England within the sound of Bow Bells. She was a young woman during the events of WWII and survived the London Blitz bombing campaign inflicted upon the city. Violet was able to support the war effort by enlisting as a riveter in aircraft manufacturing. It was there that she met her husband, Jim Hughes, who was working as her instructor at the time. Violet and Jim married in April of 1943 before Jim was deployed overseas for a period of time. They were re-united and gave birth to their son, Ray, in 1950. Their family of three immigrated to Burnaby, BC, Canada in 1964 where they resided until moving to Grand Forks, BC in 1981 (a move which Ray, now married with children, made prior).
Violet and Jim acquired a small acreage where Violet was able to enjoy her years gardening, knitting and crocheting. However, what was most important to her was her family and her three grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Violet will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her in return. Violet is survived by her son Ray (Jane); grandchildren Lissa (Chris), Keely (Jeremy) and Mike; sister June (Paul); great grand children Abby, Makenna, Kate, Lexi, James and Kylee. She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Violet; her sisters Ivy and Gladys; and her brother Arthur. There will be a private family service at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Grand Forks Funeral Home.
