With sadness, we announce the passing of Alice. She passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 10, 2023, at Jubilee Manor in Nelson at the age of 95 years.
Alice was born in Nelson on May 28, 1927, to parents 'Alexander and Rozali (Szewc/Tencza) Stasyn. She was the youngest of 6 siblings.
Alice attended Central Elementary and Nelson High School. After graduation, she attended hairdressing school and became a qualified hairdresser. Then she met Lorne, and they were married on August 29, 1952, in Trail, B.C. They made several moves around the province for Lorne's work and lastly settled in Grand Forks. In 1972, they adopted a son, James Jay Salikene who was born on September 21, 1968.
Alice was involved with the Catholic Women's League; Hospice; SPCA; and wore many name tags. She travelled on cruises and bus trips and enjoyed herself. She was always there if someone needed a hand.
Alice spent her last 6 years here in Nelson at Jubilee Manor. She was very well taken care of and enjoyed her days there, especially the bus trips and sitting on the patio in the sunshine. Staff have mentioned how kind, caring, and gentle she was.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, husband Lorne in 1988, son James in 2018, and siblings Gladys, Adam, Ted, Tony, and Stan. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Jubilee Manor staff, Dr. Janz, and the Catholic Women's League in Nelson for the superb care and compassion they provided Alice.
A prayer will be said for Alice on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 10:00 am before the weekly mass at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, 813 Ward Street, Nelson, B.C. Interment of her ashes will be Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery, 1468 - 66 Avenue, Grand Forks, B.C.
