In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Baba, on February 10th, 2023. She was born in Arran SK. April 11th, 1928, to George and Lucy Waselenkoff. She moved to Vancouver in her late teens to work.
There she met Pat Sopow and together they had a daughter Laura in 1951. Later she moved with her mom to Grand Forks where she met Alex Lazaroff a year later. They were married on March 25th, 1955. They moved to Greenwood shortly thereafter where Alex had a job with Forshaw Sawmills as a logger. Together they had their children, Cathy, Sheila, Verna, Garry and Al. They moved to Grand Forks in 1965.
Mom worked as a housekeeper at the Slumber Lodge and as a cook at the Yale Hotel. Vera loved to bake and sold her goods at the Grand Forks Farmers Market where she was proud to say she "sold out" most days. For several years, mom was a member of the USCC Cooking Group.
Vera was an avid Bingo player where she'd meet her friends to have a few laughs and win a few bucks. She loved to crochet and knit. She had a bright and beautiful smile, loved to laugh and play cards and dice with her friends. We cherished every moment with our mom. Her strength and dedication to her family should be commended.
She was predeceased by her father in 1943 and her mother in 1963, as well as her brothers Bill, Pete, Sam and George. Sisters Doris, Molly, Elsie, Mable and Annie. Her Husband Alex passed in 1988. She leaves to mourn her daughters Laura, Cathy (John), Sheila, Verna and sons Garry (Darlene) and Al. The beautiful grandchildren she adored: Carrie, Debra, Sasha, Landon (Carol), Kelsey (Kris), Ren, Amy, Corey (Jenny). Her precious great-grandchildren: Alan, Brandon, Ashley, Kruz, Theo, Ollie and Mable.
Rest in peace mom and baba.
You will be missed so much.
Following mom's wishes, there will be no service. The Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
