VERA ELISABETH Subotin

March 15, 2010

Vera Elisabeth Subotin passed away at Boundary Hospital on March 15, 2010, at 78 years of age. She was born in Grand Forks to parents Bill and Mary Zibin. On December 7, 1947, Vera married George Subotin. They lived and worked in Grand Forks and were blessed with three children, Connie, Ron and John.Vera was a very hard working person and started out working for various farmers in Grand Forks during harvest. She also worked as a chambermaid, and then in the early 60’s she became employed by Stedmans Store, eventually becoming the assistant manager. In November of 1980, Vera and George moved to Princeton where they opened a Stedmans Store that they operated for several years. Vera then worked in Princeton with home care. Over her 13 years as a caregiver she was appreciated by her clients for her dedication and her caring and cheerful nature. She still had friends she had made among her home care clients up to the time of her passing.Vera was an avid reader and also enjoyed knitting, keeping her children and grandchildren supplied with many items she made. She was a kind and committed mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife. She was also very hospitable and enjoyed feeding her family and friends alike. No one ever left Vera’s house hungry. Although George and Vera enjoyed their life in Princeton, they moved back to Grand Forks in early 2009 to be close to family members due to Vera’s failing health.Vera was predeceased by her parents, an infant brother, her brother Bill Zibin and sister Helen Krigin. She was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Connie Gretchen on May 22, 1996.She is survived by her husband George, sons Ron (Jan) and John (Yvonne), her sister Mary Pereversoff (Bill), all of Grand Forks, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as a large extended family. The family would like to thank everyone who expressed their condolences at our loss of Vera.
