At his beloved Jewel Lake after a day of fishing, Showney passed away suddenly on September 11, 2010. He was at his favourite place doing what he loved most in this world.

He was born in 1927 at Union Bay, B.C. In 1942, the evacuation of the Japanese from the West Coast during WWll brought him to Greenwood. He married Jean Clark in November of 1955 and they raised two sons, Dr. Shawne Higashi and Dr. Mitchell Higashi. His greatest joy in life was the success and accomplishments of his two boys.

Showney lived, worked, hunted and fished in Greenwood and in the Boundary area until 1992 when he and his wife, Jean moved to Burnaby. He adjusted well to city life with his ability to strike up a conversation with all and sundry. He took great pleasure in becoming a grandfather late in life.

Showney is survived by his wife Jean; his son Shawne and his wife Tracey and their children, Adam and Sierra; and by his son Mitchell and his wife Mandy and their son, Joshua. Showney is also survived by his brother Tickie; sister Pat; sisters-in law and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on September 18, 2010, at Wilson Heights United Church at Vancouver, B.C.
