September 6, 1940 - February 6, 2019
Sheryn Legrange, a resident of Rotary Manor, Dawson Creek, BC, passed away with her daughter by her side, on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the age of 78 years.
Sheryn was born to George & Elsie McLean on September 6, 1940, in Stoughton, Saskatchewan and was a new sister to brother, Barry McLean. The McLean's lived briefly in Stoughton, Regina and Cantuar, Saskatchewan before moving to Nanaimo, BC in approximately 1947.
Sheryn started her schooling in Saskatchewan and attended various elementary schools in Nanaimo. Sheryn attended the Presbyterian Sunday School and Church. Sheryn's first job was clerking in a local shoe store. After attending Nanaimo Senior Highschool, Sheryn left to become a telephone operator with BC Tel. Sheryn met her true love, and first husband, Jack Brown, in 1958 and on October 10, 1959 the two were married. They spent their honeymoon duck hunting on the prairies with Jack's parents, Jack Sr. and Jean Brown. Sheryn then moved to Jack's hometown, Lillooet, BC, where they raised their 3 children, Sheri, Ken and Adam. The family started out on the Hop Farm and then bought an acreage at Texas Creek. Texas Creek holds many stories of the kids antics - some that Sheryn heard about, some she will never know now.
Sheryn worked hard in the 1970's to raise her 3 children on her own and did so by working at the Bridge River Lillooet News for 7 years. In the late 70's Sheryn moved to Fort Nelson to start her next chapter in life. Sheryn worked for the Village of Fort Nelson, BC Hydro, the Fort Nelson News, Mental Health and Human Resources. Sheryn loved to bring her baked goodies to work and to this day, everyone has fond memories of her cinnamon swirl cake, her butter tarts, her carrot cake with real cream cheese icing and her boiled raisin cake.
In Fort Nelson, Sheryn met Bob, aka "Bubbly' Legrange, and on September 24, 1990 Sheryn and Bob were wed in a small service at their house. Bob had a passion for horses and sleigh rides and Sheryn loved to share these with her children who followed her to Fort Nelson. Sheryn and Bob started their business called "Redde Pressure Test Ltd." - named after Sheryn's nickname "Redde", due to her beautiful red hair. They built this business up into a very successful operation until finally selling it in 1997 to Kevin Elgie, and retiring "down South" to Grand Forks, BC.
Upon retiring Bob and Sheryn bought a small acreage so Sheryn could continue to putter on the property, and Bob could still have his horses. After all those years in northeastern BC, the two of them absolutely loved Grand Forks warm weather and the friendly people.
Sheryn worked for the Grand Forks Gazette newspaper, and had just returned home from there on the morning of her stroke on August 6, 2014. As it became clear Sheryn would not be going home, Sheryn then made her new home at Silver Kettle, Grand Forks, a fully assist living facility. A few months later, Bob also moved into the facility and loved to go visit "my darlin". Bob was a cowboy at heart, and longed for the wide open range, which was probably a reason for his early death on February 26, 2016.
With the passing of Bob, Sheryn was now alone in Grand Forks, so her children moved their mom up to the Chetwynd General Hospital where she lived for one year. This "new" Sheryn was a social butterfly and needed more social interaction than a hospital could provide, so on August 4, 2017, Sheryn moved into Rotary Manor. Sheryn thrived there and took in all Rotary Manor's wonderful programs and activities.
Family and friends will always remember, Sheryn, aka "Redde" as a beautiful lady who loved her family and friends and the newspaper business. Sheryn enjoyed fish n chips, but she really, really, really enjoyed beer with clamato juice and at least 5 salt shakers close by!! Sheryn also had a passion for gardening, knitting, reading, being on her computer, swimming, thrift stores and garage sales. Sheryn's favourite music was Country and Western, and her favourite song was the Anniversary Waltz. Sheryn also enjoyed the piano and loved to tinkle the ivories........even at Rotary Manor.
Sheryn leaves to celebrate her life and honour her memory, daughter Sheri (Victor Gagne); sons Ken (Wendy) Brown and Adam (Mona) Brown; brother Barry McLean (Shirley); grandchildren Dustin (Ellie) Gagne; Derek (Jess) Brown; Jayme/Jay Gagne; Rachel (Mitch) Groff and Larissa (Kyle) Soehn as well as great grandchildren, Jainic, Avaira, Alison, Mason, Stella and newest edition to the family, Hailey; as well as niece Kim (Ev) McLachlan and Lindsey (Cheryl) McLean.
Sheryn's family would like to invite you to come help celebrate her life with them on the August long weekend 2019, at the Tetsa River, North of Fort Nelson, BC.
