With heaviness of heart, the family of Sharon Salmi announces her passing.
Born Sharon Rothenberg, she grew up in the Yennadon area of Maple Ridge where she met and married her husband, Lawrence Salmi. They raised their three daughters there before retiring to Grand Forks, BC in 2006.
Sharon worked at Woodward's Restaurant in Coquitlam, then Pelton Reforestation in Maple Ridge. She volunteered in many capacities throughout her life, most recently dedicating 2-3 days a week to the vaccination clinic in Grand Forks.
To most she was known as Sharon, but she was also Shaz, Mom, Grandma, Cana-Gram and, with great affection, Salami. Sharon was healthy and active all her life, walking daily, gardening and golfing in her later years. Her artistic flair turned every house she lived in into a home and she filled each one with knitted blankets and the aroma of freshly baked bread. She will be most remembered for enjoying happy-hour home-brew, scouting a good bargain, and making stellar Yorkshire puddings. Sharon was strong, caring, humble, and a devoted friend. She loved to laugh and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Sharon developed pneumonia in early December (not Covid-related) and fought a hard, but brief battle before passing peacefully at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital with family by her side.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry, her daughters Dani (Doug) Collins, Donna (Richard) McAlpine, Maggie Salmi (Chris Guy) and her grandchildren, Delainey and Sam Collins, and Cobe and Madison Salmi- Guy, as well as her brother, Howard (Rosanne) Rothenberg.
A memorial will be held when restrictions lift and Maggie and her family can attend from Australia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Red Cross Flood Relief Fund.
As Sharon often said, "That'll do for now."
