In Loving Memory ~

It is with deep sorrow that our family mourn the passing of Roger Andrea Soviskov of Grand Forks BC on April 10th at the age of 63 years.

Roger fought cancer courageously and without complaint for almost two years. Despite all the pain and symptoms of this horrible disease, he always had a smile and reminded all to cherish life.

Roger was born in Grand Forks and spent most of his days living in the community, with the exception being a short stint in the mines of northern Saskatchewan just after graduating from high school.

He was predeceased by his mother Lucy Makonin, his father Henry Soviskov and his sister Loresa.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Donna, his daughter Crystal (Jeff), his step-children Dawney (Curtis), Keith, Joley (Daniel), Katherine (Rick), his sisters Debbie (Doug) and Rebecca (Richard).

Roger loved and will be missed by all 14 grandchildren: Branson, Conrad, Lucy, Colton, Dylan, Ryan, Jaxon, Taylor, Mackenzie, Cody, Aaron, Ellie, Ryder, Madison and great-grandson Oliver, nieces, nephews, his aunts, many cousins and friends.

Roger adopted his mother's work ethic at a young age when he started working at Ike's Café, where he began doing the dishes and moving up to cook's helper. Mom often joked about Roger being fussy when it came to plate presentation.

He spent 18 years at Canpar Industries. After Canpar shut its doors Roger completed several upgrading courses at Selkirk College. In 2009, not finding any meaningful employment, Roger and Donna took a risk and purchased Jogas Espresso Café, thus began the family business.

Jogas offered great coffee, breakfasts and lunches, but more than that you got a dose of Roger's dry sense of humour and grin. Jogas was known for its borscht which was originally made by Mom and she passed the recipe and experience down to the next generation for Roger to master, which he did.

Roger loved his muscle cars, as was evident when he purchased his first car at the age of 16. Most guys at that age would have bought an older beater, but not Roger, it was a brand new yellow Pontiac Trans Am Firebird.

He was a huge "Big Hair Music" fan, posters of some of his favorite bands were featured on the walls of Jogas.

Roger and Donna cherished their time in Huatulco, Mexico soaking up the sun, sport fishing and being pampered.

Roger doted on their dogs and pampered them with goodies. Their many dogs over the years brought Roger and Donna happiness and joy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gwen Campbell and the staff at Boundary District Hospital that helped make Roger comfortable in his last few weeks.
