Robert (Bob) Black

August 26, 1940 – January 23, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family wishes to advise that Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by love on January 23, 2017 at the Boundary Hospital in Grand Forks, B.C. He will be greatly missed by Judy, his wife of 54 years, as well as his son, Calvin (Liz), and daughter Brenda Prosser (Gerald), grandchildren Tyler, Graydon, Mark, Caitlyn and Cassidy.

Bob was born in Claresholm, Alberta and spent most of his working career in the Prince Rupert/Terrace area before retiring to Christina Lake in 1995.

He was predeceased by his father William Black, mother, Vera Rephin and sister Dorothy. He is survived by his brothers, Gordon Rephin (Beryl), Jim Rephin (Cathy), and sisters Pat Garvey (John), Linda Muraro (Jim), Marilyn Wynn (Tom), brother in law Larry Matheson (Les), Grandma Helen Willliamson and many nieces and nephews.

Bob worked as Human Resources Manager for 30 years within the forest industry retiring from REPAP in Terrace, B.C. He loved travelling, fishing, hunting and golf. He was a long time member of the Christina Lake Golf Club and loved participating in the Retirees’ Club on Thursdays. For years Bob was a trustee and Chairman of the Board for Sutherland Creek Waterworks District and a long time member of the Masonic Lodge. He also loved going to car shows with his pride and joy, his 1958 Impala, that he restored with friend Mike Burroughs.

Most of all Bob loved and enjoyed his family. His grandchildren will remember “Poppa” for all the times he took them on special trips, encouraged them, taught them how the mower worked and the special times they spent together. He was a wonderful husband, a great father, and an amazing brother and grandfather.

The family would like to thank the Christina Lake Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance attendants, home nurses, and the Boundary Hospital nurses, doctors and interns who treated him with great compassion and care. Thank you to our neighbours and friends who have helped throughout his long illness.

There will be no service at his request. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Christina Lake Fire Dept.
