September 21, 1933 to August 9, 2012

It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Dick at his ‘lake’ on August 9, 2012 – his favourite place to be.

He was predeceased by his mother, Ida; his father, William; and brothers: Ken, Mike and Jim. Dick is survived by his children: Ed (Nettie), Martin (Marlene) and Julie (Square); Florence, his wife of 56 years; grandchildren: Michel, Levi, Lindsay and Matty; his sister, Patricia (Bill); special stepsister, Peggy (Jon); special friend, Kathy; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn numerous relatives and friends, and his beloved dog, Bandit.

Dick was born at Hay Municipality, then lived at Bellevue and Hillcrest – all in Alberta. In 1947 the family moved to live on the Santa Rosa summit, before finally settling at Christina Lake. It was there he put his many talents to work: building the family home, house boats, Moody Lake and cabin, and raising fish for his lake. He had many careers: a logger, a miner for Cominco, the Fire Chief and Parks Manager for the area. Dick was active in the community, including being a Scout Master and taking an active part in naming many of the streets at Christina Lake. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, nature and making wine. He was a terrific dancer, lover of music, and had a wonderful sense of humour and a very strong handshake.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on Friday, October 5th at the Christina Lake Community Hall at 1 p.m. Grand Forks Funeral Home had care of arrangements.
