In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce, after a long battle with heart disease, Ray passed away peacefully May 16th, at the Trail hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Mission to George Capnerhurst and Thera (Forslund) Capnerhurst. In 1961 Ray married Sharon (McKamey) Capnerhurst. During their 61 years together they lived in Mission, 100 Mile House, Greenwood, and settled in Grand Forks in 1980.
In his very early teens he started working in the logging industry on the coast and in 100 Mile. He then drove logging trucks and heavy equipment. He joined the dept of highways in 1968 till his retirement in 1996. Ray's happiest years were spent on his Kubota tractor, landscaping and falling and planting trees, on their acreage on the Kettle River.
Ray is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons, Steve (Gail), Bruce (Suzanne), grandchildren Jessa (Justin) Bardarson, Braeden (Hailey) Capnerhurst, Mackenzie (Nolan Foster) Capnerhurst, and Lyndsey Capnerhurst, great grandchildren, Avery Bardarson and Wrenn Capnerhurst, his sister Doris Hills, his extended Mckamey family and many nieces and nephews.
Ray's family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff for the excellent and compassionate care he received at both the Grand Forks and Trail hospitals. A special thank you to Jan, the community paramedic, for his weekly visits during Ray's last year. Words cannot express our gratitude for the support, phone calls, visits, food, and flowers that we received from family and friends throughout this sad time.
There will be a celebration of life held later this summer.
