Pete Zmioff was born April 2, 1923 in Aron, Saskatchewan to John and Annie Zmioff. They moved to Krestova B.C. and he resided there until he met and married his wife Helen Markin of Grand Forks in 1946. They were blessed with two daughters, Shirley and Marcie. From Krestova they first moved to Trail and shortly after to Oliver in the Okanagan where they lived for about 10 years and then moved back to the Kootenay area. Pete worked in orchards in the Okanagan and then later became a carpenter working on construction until he had a heart attack and had to have open heart surgery. They lived in Castlegar until both of their daughters were married and then, once again moved to Grand Forks. Pete lived in Grand Forks with his wife until his health started deteriorating and then they moved back to Castlegar to Castlewood Village. Pete lived at the Castlewood Village for one and a half years until his health started getting worse and he was transferred to residential care at the Talarico Place in Castlegar where he resided until his passing on July 15, 2011. Pete was 88 years old.
Pete is predeceased by his parents, one brother, one sister and son-in-law Wayne Voykin. He leaves behind his wife Helen, daughter Shirley with husband Alex, daughter Marcie, four grandchildren, Jeff, Dan, Rod with wife Francis and Mark, with wife Manya; two great grandsons, Trevor and Ryan, two great granddaughters Oksana and Samantha, brother Bill with wife Mabel and some nephews and nieces.
We love you and we will miss you. Rest in peace dear husband, dad, granddad and great granddad.
A small funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Grand Forks Funeral Home with burial at the USCC Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Grand Forks Funeral Home.
We would like to thank each one who came to support us as we said goodbye to our loved one- we appreciate that you cared. We also greatly appreciated Lewie Verigin for agreeing to guide the service.
